Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.1.1.1.1 - Use appropriate register in everyday communication (informal and formal) with diverse partners on grade-level topics/texts/issues
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define register and distinguish between informal and formal language with at least three clear features of each.
- Identify whether given sentences or phrases are informal or formal register and justify their choice.
- Role-play a short everyday conversation (for example, discussing a football match or ordering at a fast-food joint) using appropriate informal register.
- Role-play a short formal conversation (for example, making a reservation at a travel and tour office or inviting a District Chief Executive to a school function) using appropriate formal register.
- Explain why choosing the right register matters in everyday communication and select appropriate language for two different situations.
