Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.1.6.1.3 - Talk about things and places in their homes

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Name at least five different places or rooms found in a home, such as the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room and compound.
Identify at least three things found in each of these places and state what they are used for.
Talk about what happens at each place in the home, using simple sentences like “We cook in the kitchen” or “We sleep in the bedroom.”
Describe one place in their own home to a partner using two or more correct sentences.
Show respect and interest when listening to others talk about their homes, building on the turn-taking habits introduced in earlier lessons.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Ask learners to name things and places in their homes and say what happens at those places.
- Show pictures of important places in their community, such as the chief's palace, the market, the police station, etc. and have learners think-pair-share ideas or views with the person sitting next to them.
- Put learners into groups to talk about their pictures.
- Rotate the pictures until each group has had its turn to talk about all the pictures.
