Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.1 - Explain the meaning of constitution and constitutionalism

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the term “constitution” in their own words, drawing on familiar examples such as school rules and home regulations.
  2. Explain the concept of constitutionalism and distinguish it from merely having a written constitution.
  3. Identify at least three key purposes of a constitution, including protecting the rights of citizens, especially the vulnerable, and limiting the powers of government.
  4. Analyse how the 1992 Constitution of Ghana both protects and constrains the actions of everyone in the country.
  5. Demonstrate respect for justice, equality, and patriotism through discussions about how constitutional rules apply equally to all persons.

Learners will uphold the values of justice, equality, and patriotism.
