Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.2.3.1.1 - Identify, discuss, and analyse creative artworks of African visual artists that reflect their background, influence and way of solving continental issues
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least six prominent African visual artists and classify their artworks according to discipline, background, and key themes.
- Explain how the personal backgrounds and life experiences of African visual artists influence the subjects and styles of their work.
- Analyse specific artworks by African artists to identify the continental issues they address, such as environmental degradation, urbanisation, women’s empowerment, or cultural preservation.
- Discriminate between factual information and generalised claims about African artists by evaluating the quality and validity of sources used during research.
- Present and defend a brief analysis of one African artist’s work, citing evidence from the artwork itself to support their interpretation.
