Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.2.3.1.2 - Examine and reflect on how African visual artists use their influence and personal responses to connect with other creative arts and subjects in Africa

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least two prominent African visual artists and state how their personal history and environment influenced their artworks.
  2. Compare the approaches of at least two African visual artists from different time periods (past and present) and explain the significance of their achievements.
  3. Explain, with specific examples, how African visual artists connect their work to other creative arts such as music, dance, drama, and to subjects like history, geography and science.
  4. Examine a selected African artwork and record a short reflection on how the artist’s personal responses and cultural background shaped the work.
  5. Present their reflections orally or in writing, using clear and well-structured sentences, to the class.
