Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.3.1.2 - Compare and contrast artworks of visual artists that reflect the history, culture, environment and topical issues

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least two visual artists from the given list (Ablade Glover, Kofi Antobam, Theodosia Okoh, Francis Boateng) and state one key theme in each artist’s work.
  2. Compare two artworks by different artists, listing at least two similarities and two differences in their themes or techniques.
  3. Contrast how two artists treat the same subject (for example, motherhood or the Ghanaian flag) using a simple comparison table.
  4. Relate an artwork to a tradition, cultural practice or environmental issue in their own community and explain the meaning behind it.
  5. Express respect for the cultural values expressed in artworks from their own and other cultures through class discussion.
