Indicator: B7.2.3.1.1 - Narrate own views of the history, culture, environment and topical issues in the community

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least four features of their community that reflect its history, culture, environment or topical issues, using techniques such as observational drawing, sketching, photographs, or printed images.
Record their personal views on one historical landmark, one cultural practice, one environmental feature, and one topical issue in their community using a chosen recording technique.
Present their recorded views clearly to peers, using either a verbal report, a simple visual display, or a short written narration.
Listen attentively to peers’ presentations and ask at least one relevant question or give one thoughtful comment on each presentation.
Reflect on the range of views shared in class and state one way their own view has changed or been enriched by hearing others.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

1. Identify and use a range of techniques such as observational drawings, sketches, own photographs and material such as adverts and images from the internet or from printed media, to record own views on the history, culture, environment and topical issues in the community. Examples: chieftaincy, landmarks, artists and artworks, events, festivals, tourist sites (natural and man-made).
2. Discuss and make individual or collaborative presentations on information recorded. Example: Using PowerPoint, Flip chart, Journal/Visual/Audio recordings such as drawings and photographs, verbal reports, assistive devices, etc.
3. Review and reflect on presentations to build consensus on the history, culture, environment and topical issues in the community.
