JHS1 Computing · Term 3, Week 2
Computer Networks
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.1.1.2 - Describe types of networks [Personal Area Network (PAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), Wide Area Network (WAN)]
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and name four types of computer networks: PAN, LAN, MAN, and WAN.
- Describe each network type by its area of coverage, using Ghanaian examples such as a classroom, a school compound, and the whole country.
- Explain the full meaning of each abbreviation (PAN, LAN, MAN, WAN) and the size of area each covers.
- Sort or group different network scenarios (for example, a Bluetooth connection between a phone and earphones, or a school computer lab) under the correct network type.
- Compare two network types by stating at least one difference in the area they cover and the kind of devices they connect.
