Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.1 - Discuss the Fundamental Objectives of Computer Security.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • State and explain the three fundamental objectives of computer security: confidentiality, integrity, and availability (the CIA triad).
  • Distinguish between the three objectives using everyday examples from their own use of computers, phones, and mobile money.
  • Analyse scenarios involving school, home, or business computer use to identify which security objective is being protected or violated.
  • Justify why the three objectives are equally important in designing security measures for an organisation.
  • Discuss, in groups, the consequences of failing to protect each objective and propose simple protective practices for each.
