Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.1.1.4.2 - Show effective listening skills by identifying various linguistic and tonal features for appropriate response.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify rising and falling intonation patterns in spoken Arabic questions and statements about a market scene, and state what each pattern signals.
- Distinguish between the emphatic consonants (ص، ض، ط، ظ) and their non-emphatic counterparts (س، د، ت، ذ) when heard in words related to market wares.
- Recognise the difference between a declarative statement and an interrogative question purely by listening to tone, without seeing the text.
- Respond appropriately to aural questions about a narration of a market scene, using the linguistic and tonal cues heard to guide their answers.
- Apply correct intonation and stress when orally reproducing short market-related phrases and questions for a partner to interpret.
