Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.2.1.2.6 - Show the effect a text has on the reader

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four different literary devices (simile, metaphor, personification, repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, hyperbole) in a given text.
  2. Explain how a specific literary device contributes to the overall meaning of the text.
  3. Describe the emotional or intellectual effect a literary device creates in the reader (e.g., fear, joy, urgency, sympathy, amusement).
  4. Link at least two literary devices in a passage to the writer’s purpose (to persuade, inform, entertain, or evoke emotion).
  5. Write a short paragraph explaining the effect of a text on them as a reader, citing specific devices as evidence.
