Indicator: B9.2.1.2.9 - Make conceptual connections between known and unknown words/phrases and analyse nuances of words/phrases in texts
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify known and unknown words and phrases in a given grade-appropriate text and sort them into categories.
- Use context clues from surrounding sentences to infer the meanings of unknown words and phrases.
- Explain the conceptual connection between a known word and an unfamiliar word or phrase that shares a related idea in the text.
- Analyse the nuance (shade of meaning) of carefully chosen words and phrases and describe the effect those words create in the text.
- Justify their choice of a particular word meaning by pointing to specific clues in the text that support their interpretation.
