Indicator: B9.2.1.2.9 - Make conceptual connections between known and unknown words/phrases and analyse nuances of words/phrases in texts

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify known and unknown words and phrases in a given grade-appropriate text and sort them into categories.
  2. Use context clues from surrounding sentences to infer the meanings of unknown words and phrases.
  3. Explain the conceptual connection between a known word and an unfamiliar word or phrase that shares a related idea in the text.
  4. Analyse the nuance (shade of meaning) of carefully chosen words and phrases and describe the effect those words create in the text.
  5. Justify their choice of a particular word meaning by pointing to specific clues in the text that support their interpretation.
