Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.1.2.4 - Provide evidence and show mastery to support understanding of texts

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Locate and quote specific sentences or phrases from a text to support their answers to comprehension questions.
  2. Explain the difference between explicit meaning (stated directly) and implicit meaning (suggested or hinted at) in a given passage.
  3. Answer comprehension questions by pairing each answer with a piece of textual evidence, using the formula “The text says…” or “This is supported by…”
  4. Justify their interpretation of a character’s actions or feelings by pointing to at least two details from the passage.
  5. Evaluate a peer’s answer to a comprehension question and give feedback on whether sufficient evidence was provided and whether the evidence actually supports the claim.
