Indicator: B8.2.1.1.3 - Generate and answer questions to increase confidence and independent reading through a variety of non-fiction texts

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State a specific purpose for reading a non-fiction text before they begin reading.
  2. Generate their own questions about a non-fiction text using the four question types: right there, think and search, author and you, and on your own.
  3. Answer questions about a non-fiction text by identifying and restating key words from the question and relating them to the text.
  4. Make connections between the text and their own prior experience to build reading confidence.
  5. Use the question-generation strategy independently when reading any non-fiction material.
