Indicator: B8.2.1.1.1 - Use Monitoring and mental visualisation to engage and understand non-fictional texts
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define monitoring and mental visualisation as comprehension strategies for non-fiction texts.
- Create mental pictures of scenes, processes or events described in a non-fiction passage.
- Identify when their understanding breaks down while reading and state what confused them.
- Underline the main idea in each paragraph of a non-fiction text and explain how it supports the overall meaning.
- Discuss with peers the pictures they formed in their minds and the questions they asked themselves while reading.
