Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.7.3.1 - Determine the contextual meaning of words and phrases.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Read a level-appropriate text and identify at least five words or phrases whose meanings are not immediately clear.
  2. Use surrounding words, sentences and clues in the text to work out the meaning of unfamiliar words and phrases.
  3. Explain in their own words the contextual meaning of selected words and phrases from the text.
  4. Match words and phrases to their correct meanings as used in a given passage.
  5. Present and justify their group’s chosen meanings for words and phrases, giving reasons based on the text.
