Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.2.7.2.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify a point of view expressed in a text by responding to guiding questions.
  • State whether they agree or disagree with an idea in a text and give at least one reason for their judgment.
  • Create a mental image from a text read and describe the pictures they formed in their heads.
  • Present their judgment about a text in simple written or oral form.
  • Justify their opinion on a character’s action or a situation in a text using evidence from the text.

This lesson builds directly on the neighbouring slots from Term 2, Week 3 (B5.2.7.1.1, B5.2.7.1.2) where learners constructed meaning and recalled main ideas. By Week 4, learners have also scanned for details (B5.2.7.1.3) and read texts closely (B5.2.7.1.4). This lesson moves learners from understanding what a text says to making simple judgments about it. Activities stop short of relating multiple ideas (B5.2.7.2.2) and analysing text structure (B5.2.7.3.1), which come later.
