Indicator: B4.2.7.1.1 - Construct meaning from texts read
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Make predictions about a text using its title, pictures and their own prior knowledge before reading.
- Use contextual clues in a passage to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words.
- Answer While Reading questions that check understanding of events and characters as the text is being read.
- Answer After Reading questions that show an overall understanding of what the text was about.
- Discuss how their own experiences helped them understand what they read.

- Select level-appropriate texts for learners. - Take learners through Before Reading activities such as picture walk, prediction and Before Reading questions etc. to elicit their prior knowledge. - Have learners use their previous knowledge/experience, contextual clues and While Reading questions to make meaning from the text as they read. - Provide After Reading questions to help learners make meaning from the text read.
