Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.2.7.1.3 - Skim for main ideas in texts

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Explain that skimming means reading quickly to get the general idea of a text without reading every word.
  • Skim a short level-appropriate text within 2 to 3 minutes and identify the main idea of the whole text.
  • Distinguish between skimming (general idea) and scanning (specific information), building on the reading habits from Week 3.
  • State the main idea of each paragraph in a short text after skimming, using their own words.
  • Use skimming as a preparation step before reading a text closely and carefully, which they will practise further in the next lesson.
