Indicator: B4.2.7.3.1 - Determine the contextual meaning of words and phrases

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the term “context” in their own words and explain why surrounding words matter for meaning.
  2. Identify at least two unfamiliar words in a passage and use surrounding words to guess their meanings.
  3. Determine the meaning of a phrase when the phrase’s meaning is different from its individual words.
  4. Use clues in a text to choose the correct meaning of a word with multiple meanings.
  5. Justify a chosen meaning by pointing to the words in the text that gave them the clue.
