Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.2.7.2.1 - Demonstrate understanding of the purpose and features of poems or rhymes and fables, etc

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify whether a given text is a poem, rhyme, fable, or story, and state its purpose (to entertain, teach a lesson, or express feelings).
  2. Point out at least three features of a poem or rhyme (rhythm, rhyme, short lines, repetition) when reading a sample text.
  3. Point out at least three features of a fable (animal characters, short length, a moral or lesson) when reading a sample text.
  4. Compare a poem and a fable using a think-pair-share activity, stating one similarity and one difference.
  5. State the purpose of a text they have read in their own words, using sentence frames such as “This text is a … because …”
