Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.1.1.2.2 - Identify and use file management techniques (drivers and hardware)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define a device driver and explain why the operating system needs drivers to communicate with hardware components such as sound cards and video graphics cards.
Identify at least three common types of device drivers found on a typical computer, including sound drivers and video graphic drivers.
Explain what a plug-and-play device is and give examples of plug-and-play devices they have used or seen in their school or home.
Describe the steps involved in installing, updating, and deleting a device driver on a Windows-based computer.
Practically demonstrate or role-play the process of installing and updating a driver, using a real computer where available or a simulation chart where no computer is available.
