Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.1.1.2.2 - Identify and use file management techniques (drivers and hardware)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define a device driver and explain why the operating system needs drivers to communicate with hardware components such as sound cards and video graphics cards.
- Identify at least three common types of device drivers found on a typical computer, including sound drivers and video graphic drivers.
- Explain what a plug-and-play device is and give examples of plug-and-play devices they have used or seen in their school or home.
- Describe the steps involved in installing, updating, and deleting a device driver on a Windows-based computer.
- Practically demonstrate or role-play the process of installing and updating a driver, using a real computer where available or a simulation chart where no computer is available.
