Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.3.LI.1 - Explain the concept of human disease

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Define the concept of human disease in their own words, using key elements such as deviation from normal functioning, signs and symptoms.
  • Distinguish between the concepts of human health and human disease, giving at least one example of each.
  • List at least four features (characteristics) of human disease, such as cause, signs, symptoms, and duration.
  • Explain the difference between signs and symptoms of a disease, using locally relevant examples.
  • Create a poster or short presentation showing the features of a chosen disease, working with a partner.

Collaborative Learning
- Work in groups to discuss and make PowerPoint. presentations on the concept of human disease.
- Individually create definitions of the concept of human health and pair up with a partner to come out with a common definition of human disease and share with the class
Activity-Based Learning: With their partner, learners design posters on features of human disease and share them with the class by mounting them so others comment. Encourage learners to respectfully comment and tolerate other opinions
