Coaching and Officiating of Games
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.4.LI.2 - Apply the concepts and principles of coaching and officiating in the performance of ball or invasion games.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Demonstrate the role of a coach during a practice session of an invasion game (e.g., football, basketball, or handball) by giving clear instructions and organising players into positions.
- Apply officiating principles by correctly signalling at least three different infringements or restarts during a modified invasion game.
- Execute effective communication strategies (verbal and non-verbal) as a coach or referee during game play, showing confidence and clarity.
- Analyse a short game scenario and make one coaching decision and one officiating decision that improve the flow or performance of the game.
- Reflect on their own performance in coaching and officiating roles, identifying one strength and one area for improvement.
This lesson builds on Week 14 (Indicator 2.3.4.LI.1) where learners examined the concepts and principles of coaching and officiating. This week, learners move from understanding to application, putting those principles into action in game situations.
