Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.5.LI.2 - Use the concepts and principles of coaching and officiating in the performance of run events.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Demonstrate the correct starting commands for sprint events (“On your marks”, “Set”, and the gun) and apply them in a mock race scenario.
- Use a stopwatch to accurately time a 100 m sprint and record results on a simple results sheet.
- Perform the roles of a coach and an official during a practice run event, applying at least three coaching principles (feedback, pacing, motivation) and three officiating principles (fair start, lane discipline, accurate judging) simultaneously.
- Identify and apply the rules for baton exchange in a 4 × 100 m relay during a group practice session.
- Assess a peer’s running performance using a simple observation checklist and give one constructive coaching comment.
