Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.5.LI.1
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define coaching and officiating in the context of throw events (shot put, discus, javelin, hammer) and explain why both roles are essential for a well-managed competition.
- Identify and describe at least three key coaching principles (safety, technique analysis, athlete development) that apply specifically to throw events.
- Identify and describe at least three key officiating principles (fairness, rule enforcement, accurate measurement) that apply specifically to throw events.
- Differentiate between the roles and responsibilities of a coach and an official in a throw event setting, giving at least two examples for each role.
- Work in a group to research and present findings on how coaching and officiating principles work together to ensure the successful execution of a throw event.

Group work: Learners in suitable grouping, research from available relevant sources such as; (books, journals, internet, etc.) and discuss concepts and principles of coaching and officiating of throw events. Learners make presentations to justify their findings. Activity-based learning: Using suitable approaches, learners draw up a plan for coaching and officiating throw events for execution.
