Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.3.1.1.3 - Demonstrate ability to distinguish between common language sounds and the peculiar Arabic phonics.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five Arabic consonant sounds that are shared with English or other Ghanaian languages (such as b, t, j, d, m) and give an example Arabic word for each.
  2. Produce at least four Arabic sounds that are peculiar to Arabic (such as th, kh, dh, dad) with their correct articulation and attach them to word components.
  3. Compare a shared sound with a peculiar Arabic sound in a given pair of words and explain the difference in how each is pronounced.
  4. Read aloud short Arabic words containing both shared and peculiar sounds with acceptable pronunciation, as demonstrated in the lesson.
  5. Classify a list of given Arabic words into two groups: those containing common shared sounds and those containing peculiar Arabic sounds.
