KG2 Integrated Learning · Term 3, Week 11

Changing Weather Conditions

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: K2.6.9.1.7 - Collect and handle data on learner’s preference of weather conditions.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Ask a friend which weather condition they like most (sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, or cold) and listen carefully to the answer.
  2. Count and record how many learners prefer each weather condition using tally marks or counters.
  3. Represent the collected data in a simple picture graph or bar chart drawn with the teacher’s help.
  4. Read the graph to answer questions such as “Which weather has the most friends?” and “Which weather has the fewest friends?”
  5. Use the data to solve simple subtraction problems from 0 to 20, using counters or their fingers (for example, 20 minus 10 equals 10).

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners interview each other about what weather conditions each person like most. Learners count and represent data in a graphical form and in groups. Use the data to ask questions such e.g. Which group has the most members? Count them. Which group has few members? Is there a group with no one? Etc. Also scaffold learners to develop conceptual understanding of subtraction (0 to 20). Ask if the whole class has 20 members and 10 pupils do not prefer any weather condition, how many will be left to dress up? Guide learners to subtract numbers using countable objects.
