Caring for the Parts of My Body

Learning Objectives
Indicator: K1.1.3.1.5 - Stress the words that show caring for the body as learners sing songs about personal care of the body parts and clap hands on the rhythm of the songs E.g. wash, brush, cut nails.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and say aloud the care words in a song: wash, brush, cut, clean, wipe
- Stress or emphasise the care words when singing “This is the way I wash my face”
- Clap hands on the rhythm of the song, clapping louder when they reach a care word
- Demonstrate the action for each care word while singing (washing face, brushing teeth, cutting nails)
- Follow the teacher’s model and repeat the song lines several times with correct stress on the care words

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Have learners repeat the song: this is the way I wash my face..., clapping the rhythm to stress on the care words. Model for them how to stress the words and have them follow along just doing the actions. Repeat the lines several times. With the aid of cut-out pictures of body cleaning tools, have learners pick and demonstrate appropriate way of how that tool is used to clean the body. Introduce the letter of the week activity (one letter a week)
