Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.6.1.1.2 - Analyse the value of work to the individual and society in general
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain at least three ways work benefits the individual, such as income, self-esteem, and skill development.
- Explain at least three ways work benefits society, such as providing goods and services, generating taxes, and building community.
- Compare the advantages and disadvantages of working for self versus working for others using a structured analysis.
- Present a short group report that clearly arranges arguments about the value of work in a logical order with supporting details.
- Make a reasoned judgement about which form of work (self or employed) suits a given personal goal, and justify that judgement with evidence.

E.g., Self: - Advantage: More control over income; choose the people you work with. - Disadvantage: Difficult to raise capital; working may be much longer and irregular; sickness results in the business suffering. Others: - Advantage: Retirement benefits; regular work hours - Disadvantage: Less job security; less freedom
