Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.6.1.1.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain the importance of reading widely for pleasure and learning in their own words.
  2. Read an age- and level-appropriate book of their choice independently during the library period.
  3. Identify and apply a set of criteria (title, author, plot, characters, and personal opinion) to critique a book they have read.
  4. Write a two-paragraph critical commentary on the book read, based on the set criteria.
  5. Present their critical commentary to the class and give and receive constructive feedback.
