SHS3 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 2, Week 8
Building Drawing
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.3.1.LI.5 - Draw the sectioning of simple buildings using appropriate drawing Instruments or CAD
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define a building section and explain the purpose of a cutting plane in producing a sectional view.
- Locate and mark a cutting plane line on a previously drawn floor plan, respecting building codes and symbol conventions.
- Draw a simple building section by projecting lines from the floor plan to the section view, using appropriate drawing instruments or CAD tools.
- Apply correct building symbols and dimensioning standards when completing the sectional drawing.
- Justify the choice of cutting plane position based on what features need to be shown internally (for example, doors, windows, roof slope).
