Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.1 - Discuss the systems of government.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the term “system of government” in their own words and distinguish it from the form of government.
  2. Identify and describe at least four major systems of government, including unitary, federal, confederal, and at least one historical or classical system (monarchy, aristocracy, or democracy).
  3. Explain the key features and distribution of power in each system of government with specific examples.
  4. Compare and contrast unitary and federal systems of government using a structured discussion or table.
  5. Present reasoned arguments on the strengths and weaknesses of each system of government in a group discussion, respecting divergent views.
