Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.4 - Describe galaxies and their various types - elliptical, spiral, irregular, quasars, blazers, Lenticular, active, seyfert.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a galaxy in their own words and describe the Milky Way as our home galaxy.
  2. Identify and describe at least five types of galaxies (elliptical, spiral, irregular, lenticular, and active galaxies) based on their shape, structure, and characteristics.
  3. Explain the distinguishing features of quasars, blazars, and Seyfert galaxies as specific classes of active galaxies.
  4. Classify pictures or descriptions of galaxies into their correct types using observable features.
  5. Compare and contrast at least two different galaxy types, stating key similarities and differences.
