Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.1.8.1.1 - Use appropriate pronunciation and intonation in asking and answering Yes/No questions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify Yes/No questions and distinguish them from other kinds of questions by their rising intonation and the way they begin.
  2. Ask Yes/No questions using the correct rising intonation with the structures “Is this…?”, “Is that…?”, and “Are these…?”
  3. Answer Yes/No questions with the short responses “Yes, it is”, “No, it isn’t”, “Yes, they are”, and “No, they aren’t”, using appropriate falling intonation.
  4. Demonstrate correct pronunciation of key words when asking and answering Yes/No questions in pair work.
  5. Participate confidently in simple question and answer exchanges with a partner in the classroom.
