Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.2 - Apply safety measures in creating art and design work with special attention to protective and decorative processes to create artwork.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least five specific safety hazards associated with protective and decorative processes (such as spraying, varnishing, carving, and bleaching) and explain the risk each poses.
- Demonstrate correct handling of tools, materials, and equipment used in protective and decorative processes, including proper ventilation, protective clothing, and safe storage.
- Apply at least three safety measures when executing a practical task that combines a protective process (e.g., varnishing or oiling) and a decorative process (e.g., painting or incising) on a wooden artefact.
- Evaluate a completed artwork and its production process, identifying where safety measures were correctly applied and where improvements could be made.
- Create a simple safety checklist or pictorial guide that summarises the key safety rules for protective and decorative processes in the art studio.
