Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.2 - Discuss the contributions of African contemporary art and artists to art institutions in Africa.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall and name at least four notable art institutions in Africa, identifying their locations and the approximate years they were established.
  2. Describe the main activities of selected African art institutions, including their roles in exhibiting, promoting, and preserving contemporary African art.
  3. Explain how specific contemporary African artists have contributed to the growth and reputation of particular art institutions.
  4. Discuss how these institutions promote Ghanaian and African socio-cultural identity through their programming and exhibition strategies.
  5. Work collaboratively in mixed-gender groups to research, document, and present findings on one art institution and its contributions to the African art scene.
