Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.2 - Analyse and explain the impacts of modern art on African art.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Compare the key characteristics of African art and modern art in terms of context, materials, methods, and uses.
  2. Explain at least three specific ways in which modern art has influenced the themes, materials, and exhibition strategies of African art.
  3. Analyse how African artists have adapted modern art techniques while maintaining their cultural identity.
  4. Evaluate the positive and challenging impacts of modern art on the production and presentation of African art.
  5. Participate respectfully in group discussions, listen to diverse viewpoints, and present reasoned conclusions about the relationship between modern and African art.
