Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.1 - Categorise and explain contemporary African art.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define contemporary African art and distinguish it from traditional and modern African art using timelines and stylistic markers.
- Identify at least four major categories of contemporary African art based on materials, methods of fabrication, context, and socio-cultural relevance.
- Sort given examples of contemporary African artworks into appropriate categories, justifying each placement with evidence from the work.
- Explain how the materials, processes, and contexts of contemporary African art reflect 21st-century African culture and identity.
- Present a brief oral or written analysis of one contemporary African artwork, referencing its category, materials, and cultural significance.
