Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.1 - Describe the art of major ancient cultures with timelines.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least six major ancient cultures (China, India, Mesopotamia, Persia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Meso-America, Oceania) and state the approximate time period during which each civilisation produced significant artworks.
- Describe at least two distinctive art forms or characteristic artworks from each of the major ancient cultures studied, noting the materials and methods used.
- Construct a timeline that correctly sequences major ancient cultures from earliest to most recent, placing key artworks or art periods in their proper chronological positions.
- Categorise artworks from ancient cultures by creating a pictorial table that organises information by culture, timeline, tools, materials, and methods of fabrication.
- Compare and contrast the art of two ancient cultures, identifying similarities and differences in form and content, and explain how geography and resources influenced artistic choices.
