Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.4.13.2.3 - Establish and maintain a formal style.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify features of formal style in a model argumentative essay, including formal vocabulary, complete sentences, and avoidance of slang or contractions.
- Rewrite informal sentences into formal sentences suitable for an argumentative piece.
- Draft one body paragraph of an argumentative essay using formal language, clear reasons, and evidence.
- Peer-review a partner’s paragraph and give feedback on whether the formal style was maintained throughout.
- Justify their choice of formal wording in a short class discussion, explaining why formal style matters in persuasive writing.
