Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.4.13.1.1 - Support opinions with simple sentences
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State a clear opinion on a given motion using the phrase “I think” or “In my opinion.”
- Give at least one simple reason to support their opinion using the word “because.”
- Sort themselves into groups for and against a motion and contribute at least one idea to their group’s list.
- Read out their group’s opinions clearly to the class.
- Write two simple sentences that express an opinion and a supporting reason.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
- Present a motion to learners. e. g. A doctor is more important than a farmer. - Discuss the meaning and implication of the motion with pupils and invite them to take a stand either for or against the motion. - Put learners into two groups: for the motion and against the motion and write down what they think about it. - Groups read out their opinions to the class for discussions.
