Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.4.13.2.4
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify a concluding statement in a sample argumentative paragraph and explain how it follows from the argument presented.
- Write a concluding statement that restates the main claim in new words for a given argument.
- Use appropriate concluding phrases (e.g., “In conclusion,” “To sum up,” “For these reasons,” “Therefore”) in their concluding statements.
- Recognise the difference between a strong conclusion (one that ties back to the claim) and a weak conclusion (one that introduces new ideas or contradicts the argument).
- Revise a given paragraph by replacing a weak concluding statement with a stronger one that follows from the argument.
