Indicator: B4.4.13.2.2 - Use words, phrases, and clauses to clarify the relationships between claim(s) and reasons
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least five linking words, phrases, and clauses (such as because, therefore, since, for example, as a result) that connect claims to reasons in a short written argument.
- Complete sentence frames that connect a claim to a reason using an appropriate linking word or phrase.
- Write three sentences that each contain a claim, a linking phrase, and a reason, with correct punctuation.
- Sort given linking words and phrases into categories of cause, result, and example.
- Improve two sample sentences by adding an appropriate linking word or phrase to make the relationship between the claim and the reason clear.
