Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.3.2.LI.3 - Critique selected speeches of selected characters and how they influence the development of the plot
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the key stages involved in critiquing a character’s speech, including context, purpose, language features, tone, and plot impact.
- Analyse how a selected character’s speech reveals their intentions, emotions, and relationships with other characters.
- Evaluate how a character’s speech advances the plot by creating conflict, revealing information, or prompting decisions and actions.
- Critique a character’s speech from a Ghanaian play or a foreign text using a structured guide and justify their judgments with textual evidence.
- Present and defend their critique in a group discussion, giving and receiving constructive feedback.

Whole Class Activity: - In a whole class activity, discuss the stages of critiquing characters' speeches. Use concept mapping to help organise the steps and ideas. - In mixed-ability groups, follow steps to critique a speech. Share and discuss with other groups and the whole class. - Individually critique selected speeches and monitor progress using a guide. - Learners develop critical thinking skills, articulate and explain one's feelings in a group situation.
