Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.4.2.LI.1 - Review literary devices and poetic elements in selected poems.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define and identify at least six literary devices and poetic elements in a given poem, drawing on poems studied in Weeks 13 to 15.
- Distinguish between a literary device (such as simile, metaphor, personification) and a poetic element (such as rhyme, rhythm, stanza, tone).
- Work in pairs to locate and label examples of literary devices and poetic elements in a selected African poem, using the think-pair-share strategy.
- Explain the effect of a specific literary device or poetic element on the meaning or mood of a poem, using a simple PEE-style response (Point, Evidence, Explanation).
- Present a short oral or written review of the devices and elements in a poem, showing how they work together to create meaning.
