Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.2.LI.2 - Analyse in detail how themes develop throughout the poems.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Trace how a theme emerges, grows, and reaches its full force through the stanzas of a given poem.
  2. Identify the key vocabulary and recurring words that signal theme development and explain their denotative and connotative meanings.
  3. Compare how the same theme is developed differently in two poems.
  4. Discuss, in groups, how a poet’s progression of ideas shapes the reader’s understanding of the theme.
  5. Write a short PEE paragraph showing how a theme develops, with textual evidence from the poem.

Experiential Learning:

- Learners in groups identify key vocabulary/vocabularies that surround the theme(s) by considering the recurring or repetition of words and explaining them denotatively or connotatively etc..

- Learners discuss the themes based on the vocabulary identified and present their findings in a creative way.

- Learners develop creativity and work in groups showing respect to each other.
