Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.2 - Explain the principles of operation of the aircraft instruments.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain how the pitot-static system provides pressure data for the airspeed indicator, altimeter, and vertical speed indicator, using the concepts of static and dynamic pressure.
- Describe the principle of operation of the gyroscopic instruments (attitude indicator, heading indicator, and turn coordinator) and how rigidity in space and precession make them work.
- Compare the operating principles of the magnetic compass and the heading indicator, including the limitations of each.
- Classify each aircraft instrument as either an airborne instrument or a ground operation instrument, based on where it is used.
