Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.3.LI.2 - Classify and operate different types of machinery used in crop production.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Classify farm machinery into at least three groups based on their function in crop production (land preparation, planting, and harvesting).
- Describe the correct operational procedure for at least one land preparation machine and one planting machine.
- Match specific machines (tractor, plough, harrow, planter, combined harvester) to their appropriate stage in the crop production cycle.
- Demonstrate correct safety precautions to observe when operating or working around farm machinery.
- Explain how machinery use affects the efficiency of arable crop production compared to manual methods.

Enquiry-Based Learning: Learners in mixed groups (of 5), surf the Internet and come up classes of farm machinery used in crop production (land tillers, planters, harvesters). Exploratory Learning: Visit large-scale farms for practical or simulated demonstrations on different farm machinery in crop production and present a report. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Functional internet facilities - Video documentaries - Hoes, cutlasses - Mattock - Pickaxe - Shovel - * - Hand trowel - Tractor - Ploughs - Harrows - Planters - Combined harvesters - Large-scale farm.
