Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.3.11.1.1 - Form and use adjective phrases correctly

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify adjective phrases in given sentences and state the head adjective in each phrase.
  2. Form adjective phrases of two or more words by adding modifiers (such as very, extremely, quite, truly) to a head adjective.
  3. Use adjective phrases correctly in their own oral sentences to describe people, places and things.
  4. Write three or more sentences that contain adjective phrases, with the phrases correctly placed before the nouns they describe.
  5. Work in groups to build adjective phrases and share sentences using them with the class.

e.g. this is a very beautiful flower.
- Revise adjectives in context by having learners identify them in sentences and use them in their own sentences.
- Introduce the adjective phrase as a grammatical structure with the adjective as head.
Note: The adjective phrase can be a single adjective or more.
E.g. a beautiful house, a strong African oven.
- Provide sentences with adjective phrases and let learners identify the adjective phrases.
- In groups, learners form adjective phrases and use the phrases in sentences.
